We started PageDNA in 1997 with a focus on B2B or "Business-to-Business" e-commerce solutions, where enforcing branding standards for templated products is a top concern. As we've grown, increasingly we have fielded requests from manufacturers and distributors looking for help also handing the completely custom items... for example, where the user provides their own artwork. This B2C or "Business-to-consumer" environment brings its own set of demands. Competition demands that these jobs be turned around quickly and customer service be handled swiftly, so as to ensure a repeat customer. The problem remains: the cost for "touching" small custom orders is high. PageDNA was approached by a manufacturer looking for an e-commerce platform they could completely brand as their own, allowing "walk up" customers the ability to submit custom or templated items that can get to press with as few touches as possible.
Catalog FlexibilityOur customer started by using PageDNA's Self Administration tools to design an online catalog conforming to their standardized products. The catalog was organized by grouping items by product type, then by size, and then and printing style and paper weight. Our customer decided that they wanted to give some users on their site access to templated items - this is fully supported, should you wish to create what we call a "mega-site" where each customer sees their own unique "mix" of the products in the catalog. B2C templated products can allow the user to change the font face, color, size, etc... or be locked down like a traditional B2B template. It's up to you.
Simple and Reliable Artwork UploadPageDNA's dedicated "Special Request" item type allows your users to upload artwork outside the context of a templated product. One common example is a "custom upload" application where the user uploads a PDF for a front and back of a custom artwork product. Delivery FlexibilityItems can be linked to numerous available delivery methods, so you user can choose how they wish - and you allow - to have their order mailed/delivered. The options include:
Our customer decided to allow products such as flyers to be drop-shipped, but added mail-merge / mailing list delivery options for the direct mail related items such as postcard products. PaymentAs detailed in our Payment Processing page, our customer decided to activate both sales tax collection as well as real-time credit card authorization.
Approval GatekeeperOur customer decided to have a prepress operator preflight each order using PageDNA's optional approval module. Occasionally, you may find a problem in the user artwork or an uploaded mailing list file, and will need to adjust the quantity before "approving" the order. Only when an order is approved is the credit card transaction finalized should you use real-time credit card.
Customer ServiceWith customer service and shipping tracking automated, there are very few reasons for a customer to have to call to check on an order. A link provided in their confirmation email gives them "one-click" access to their order status. This customer continues to add more templates to their site, which grows in usage each month since activation. Let us know how we can help you with your needs. |
